There is no shortage of interest in the four tribal council seats on the ballot in Rocky Boy’s fall elections.
Fifty-six people filed for the seats on the Chippewa Cree Business Committee.
The Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation’s primary election for four tribal seats will be Oct. 7. Voters are asked to go to the old Stone Child College gymnasium to submit their ballots.
The primary elections will whittle down the list of 56 candidates to the eight top candidates.
In conjunction with state elections, the general elections for the tribal seats will be Nov. 4, at the reservation’s Wellness Center.
Rick Morsette, the interim chair of the committee, is not running for re-election. He can remain interim chair without serving on the council. Morsette was named interim chair after trial council removed Ken St. Marks as chair. St. Marks is in a protracted legal battle to get his seat back. Council members have said if St. Marks gets his seat back, they will once again remove him.
State lawmakers are taking an interest in the race.
State Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy, D-Box Elder, has filed, as has Gilbert Meyers, the Republican hopeful for Montana House in the fall election.

the people in RB are very angry and hurt over this embezzling. SO I say, Good luck to all the new candidates and the ones that are running for re-election, we hope that you do not win... because you all knew what was going on in the first place and did not attempt to put a stop to this corruption. We need honest leaders that will work for the people, our land, our reservation, especially OUR CHILDREN!, their future.
