Hi-Line Football Roundup: Box Elder thumps Big Sandy, Chinook rolls

This past weekend brought us more exciting action on the gridiron along the Hi-Line, highlighted by the battle between defending Class C Six-Man state champion Geraldine-Highwood and 2013 playoff participant North Star in Rudyard last Saturday afternoon.

The Knights fought valiantly against one of the true powerhouses of Six-Man football and despite their best effort, they fell short to the defending champions, 53-26.

Geraldine/Highwood established dominance early and after a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first quarter by Jake Malek, the Rivals built an early 20-0 lead. In the second quarter, North Star got back into it after a touchdown pass from Matthew Helmbrecht to Payton Peterson. Then, a five-yard touchdown pass by Helmbrecht made the score 33-14 at halftime in favor of the Rivals.

Yet, the third quarter belonged to the Knights and after another touchdown pass by Helmbrect, this one to Keevan Borlaug, the Knights trailed just 33-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, Geraldine/Highwood proved to be too much and outscored North Star 20-6 in the fourth quarter to give the Rivals an impressive 53-26 win on the road.

The Knights, who fell to 2-1 with the loss, were led by Helmbrecht, who had three total touchdowns, two passing and one rushing. Borlaug also had a solid day, catching a touchdown and throwing another.

North Star will be back in action this Saturday when the Knights head to Augusta for another showdown in the North Division of six-man football.
