Havre Pride cleanup set for Saturday

The streets, parks, alleys and byways of Havre will get a serious cleaning, Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, when local groups, organizations, businesses and individuals contribute to the citywide cleanup, Havre Pride. Organizers are looking for community support.

The redemption site for street trash will be in the parking lot at 5th Avenue and 1st Street, and recycling will take place at Pacific Steel and Recycling.

“Can you help by picking up litter anywhere around Havre on Saturday, Sept. 13? You bet. An hour of your time can make a big difference,” said Debbie Vandeberg, executive director of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce. “Fall is great time to take another look at our community and do some needed fall housecleaning. A clean community shows pride and is more inviting to visitors, than a community with dirty sidewalks, weeds growing through the cracks and borrow pits scattered with litter.”

Any local organizations or clubs that would like to select a specific area to clean can call the Chamber at 265-4383

“You can help keep Havre clean and attractive. Join in the Havre Pride clean-up.” she said.

Recycle Hi-Line will be available to take aluminum, scrap metal, office paper, newspaper, cardboard and boxboard, such as cereal boxes, cardboard inserts, cracker boxes.

The recycle drive is usually held the third Saturday of the month, but will be held early in September to coordinate with Havre Pride, said Candi Zion, Recycle Hi-Line chair.

Recycling drives will be held at Pacific Steel year-round, she added.

Trash bags may be picked up the morning of Havre Pride starting at 8 a.m at the dumpsite. Trash redeemed must be street trash. Household trash will not be accepted. Street trash is defined as trash that is picked up from city streets and alleys as well as from city parks.

People with questions about Recycle Hi-Line can call Zion at 899-6513.
