From Tee to Green...
One league champion crowned, and another to be crowned at the end of this week. That's what's going on on the local golf scene these days.
Last week, the men's league playoffs wrapped up at Prairie Farms Golf Course, with Independence Bank winning the 2014 league championship. The Independence Bank squad, composed of Dennis Murphy, Todd Smith, Byron Ophus and Matt Werthheimer defeated Northern Edge 42.5-29.5 over the course of two nights and 18 holes. The first nine was played last Wednesday, while the match concluded on Thursday night.
Also playing for Independence Bank this season was, Gene Harada, Bill Keller and Dennis Donoven. Independence Bank took out Tilleman Motors one of the semifinals last Tuesday. Northern Edge beat Valley Furniture in the other semifinal. The Northern Edge team was composed of Kyle Sheppard, Ricky Brown, Nate Baltrusch, Christian Oberquell and Steve Heberly.
Meanwhile, the ladies will wrap up their playoffs with this Thursday night's championship match. In one semifinal last Thursday, Makin Waves defeated Scharfe, Kato & Co. 20-5-15.5. The other semifinal wasn't able to be completed due to darkness. DA Davidson and Schubert Agency finished their match tied at 18-18, and will play a one-hole playoff Thursday afternoon. There will also be a consolation match Thursday night between the two teams that lost in the semifinals.
Last Thursday night's action saw Ali Ward shot a 43 for low gross, while Paula Sheppard was low net with a 31.
A champion will also be crowned Sunday at Prairie Farms, when the course hosts its men's club championship. The 18-hole stroke play event has plenty of openings still, and golfers can sign up by calling the Prairie Farms Pro Shop.
