The Havre High boys and girls golf teams have only been practicing for three days. But the Blue Ponies got the 2014 high school golf season off to a roaring start.
On Monday, Havre played the first 18 holes of the 36-hole Great Falls Invitational. Five boys and one HHS girl took to the tough Meadowlark Country Club course for the first round of the season and things couldn’t have gone any better.
On the boys side, juniors Jerod Boles and Jeff Miller led the way. Boles fired a stellar 78 while Miller shot 80. But the good scores kept coming for the Ponies as sophomore Dustin Haas finished with an 82 and fellow sophomore Kane Gabrielsen fired 89. Senior Wyatt Lindbloom finished the opening round of the two-day tourney with a 92 as the Havre boys currently sit in 11th place in the team standings, while Boles is in a tie for 23rd place and Miller a tie for 40th in the individual standings.
On the girls side, only junior Randi Gabrielsen made the trip to Great Falls, but she too was in fine form. Gabrielsen shot an opening-round 89, a stellar score for the difficult Meadowlark course. Gabrielsen is currently in a tie for 20th place in the girls individual standings.
Havre will finish the Great Falls Invitational with today’s 18-hole round played at Eagle Falls Golf Course. The Blue Ponies will get right back into tournament action Thursday when they host the Havre Golf Tournament at Prairie Farms.
