From Tee to Green...
It’s a big, big week on the local golf scene.
First, the Havre High high school golf season is now underway, and Thursday at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the Blue Ponies will play the first of two home tournaments this season. Then there’s playoffs at Prairie Farms. The ladies started their playoffs last week, while the men get started tonight. And lastly, there’s more golf tournament fun this weekend.
On Saturday, Prairie Farms will play host to the 7th annual Havre Wrestling Club tournament. The vent is a four-person scramble with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $75 per player and includes green fees, mulligans and lunch. There are flag prizes as well. To sign up, call the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms.
Meanwhile, the men’s league regular season came to a close last Tuesday-Wednesday at Prairie Farms, and now it’s playoff time.
Last Tuesday night saw Patrick Construction earn high-team honors with 22.5 points. The team was composed of Tom Patrick, Dave Armstrong, Tim Callahan and Dave Clausen. Kyle Sheppard was low gross with a 37, while Bill Wirtzberger was low net with a 30. Also, four more teams edged their way into this week’s playoffs. Last Wednesday night saw another four teams make the playoffs, while Michelob Light earned high team with 23 points. Jim Kato, Bruce Normandy, Tom Adams and Jim Heberly made up the squad. Kato was low gross with a 1-under-par 35, while Vince Scofield was low net with a 27.
Now, the competition really begins as the two-week playoffs start with the first round tonight. The matchups include, Michelob Light (Wednesday) against Stockman Bank (Tuesday), Valley Furniture (Wednesday) against Patrick Construction (Tuesday), Wagner Plumbing (Tuesday) against Havre Ford (Wednesday), Northern Edge (Tuesday) against Hi-Line Audio/Video (Wednesday), Independence Bank (Wednesday) against Hole 19 (Tuesday), Master Sports (Wednesday) against Lisa’s 15 West (Tuesday), Bing-N-Bobs (Tuesday) against Bear Paw Credit Union (Wednesday) and Tilleman Motor Co. (Tuesday) against DA Davidson (Wednesday). The playoffs will continue with the second round on Wednesday night, the semifinals next Tuesday and the championship round next Wednesday.
As mentioned earlier, the ladies got their playoffs going last week at Prairie Farms. Independence Bank beat Columbia Grain 24-12, Patrick Construction beat Prairie Farms 23-13 and Schubert Agency bested Northern Montana Hospital 18.5-17.5, while DA Davidson beat Western Drug 22-10.5. Scharfe, Kato & Co. also defeated Havre Heating Makin Waves had a bye after winning the regular season women’s league title.
Low gross last Thursday went to Carrie Kato with a stellar 37, while Ali Ward shot a 39. Lindsey Kellam netted an amazing 24. Also, congrats to Terry Lillevedt for holing out for eagle from 85 yards on No. 2 Thursday afternoon.
The matchups for this Thursday’s second round include, Makin Waves against Scharfe, Kato & Co., DA Davidson against Patrick Construction and Independence Bank against Schubert Agency. The three winners plus the losing team with the highest number of points will advance to next week’s semifinals.
