The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball season ended in a difficult way last week as the North Stars were eliminated from the Northern District Tournament in two games.
But while the North Stars were in Fort Macleod, Alberta, two of their players were honored for the season they each had.
Havre center fielder Ryne Antley and infielder Travis Roth each earned Northern A All-Conference honors for 2014.
Antley, who was in his third season for Havre, played outstanding defense all year. He moved from catcher a year ago to playing center field nearly every game for the North Stars and his defense was phenomenal throughout. Antley had a .950 fielding percentage with 120 putouts this season. At the plate, he also belted one of Havre’s two homeruns this season, and finished the year hitting .318 with 17 runs batted in and 22 runs scored.
Roth, who mainly played second base, but also played some shortstop this summer, was Havre’s best hitter from start to finish. In 43 games and 151 plate appearances, Roth led the North Stars with a .383 average and 54 hits, including five extra-base hits. Roth also led the North Stars in runs scored with 28 and was second on the team with 24 runs batted in. The 2014 season was Roth’s second with the North Stars. Roth lives and attends high school in Chinook.
Both Roth and Antley will join a large contingent of returning North Stars next season.
