The last two seasons of Frontier Conference volleyball have been awfully exciting in Havre. And the Montana State University-Northern Skylights should keep that tradition alive this season.
Tuesday, at Frontier Conference Media Day in Great Falls, the league released its Preseason Coaches Poll, and the Skylights were tabbed to finish fourth, totaling 27 points in the poll. Northern won the regular season title a season ago, but finished second at the Frontier Conference tournament for the second consecutive season. But in all, the Skylights have been the winningest program in the Frontier over the last two seasons.
Defending Frontier champion Rocky Mountain College was picked first in the poll, followed by Lewis-Clark State and Carroll College. Northern tied with Montana Tech, with both schools receiving one first-place vote. Westminster, in its last season in the Frontier, was picked sixth, followed by the University of Great Falls and UM-Western.
The Skylights will begin preseason camp next week, and they open their 2014 season at the Sports Travel Northwest Invitational Aug. 21-23 in Spokane.
