Lethbridge blows out North Stars twice

Havre hosts Minors in a rematch Sunday at Legion Field

After a dominant and lopsided performance Tuesday in Fort MacLeod, Alberta, the Havre North Stars American Legion baseball club had to see how the other half lived.

The North Stars hammered the Fort MacLeod Royals in a Northern District doubleheader Tuesday, but Wednesday, the Lethbridge Minors turned the table on Havre in Lethbridge.

The Minors swept the North Stars in a Northern District doubleheader. Lethbridge took game one 15-0 in five innings, then came back to win the nightcap 13-2 in six innings. Lethbridge hounded Havre pitchers from start to finish. Dylan Carpenter took the loss in the first game, while Dan Miller came on in relief. David Denny started and pitched the whole way for the North Stars in the second game.

While Lethbridge battered Havre for 18 hits, including a seven-run third inning, the North Stars mustered just three hits of their own in the shutout loss. Travis Roth, Denny and Ryne Antley were the only North Stars to secure hits.

Offensively, things didn’t get any better for Havre in the second game. The Minors plated 13 runs on just seven hits while the North Stars committed five errors. And at the plate, Havre once again was able to only get three hits. Jake Sedahl did drive in a run as the North Stars scored twice in the top of the third. But beyond that, only Denny and Gavin Gunderson got hits for the North Stars.

With the losses Wednesday, Havre fell to a still solid 7-5 in conference play.

Despite the rough two games in Lethrbridge, Havre remains in good shape in the district standings, and can really make up ground over the next week. The North Stars play six of their next eight district games at home, and have eight league games in a week’s span.

Havre (17-13) starts the busy stretch with a rematch with Lethbridge Sunday at Legion Field. The North Stars then travel to Great Falls next Tuesday for a pair of makeup games with the Great Falls Electrics. Those games will be big for the North Stars as they battle the Electrics at the top of the league standings. From there, Havre comes back home to play its final four home games of the summer. The North Stars host the Vauxhall Spurs in a doubleheader Wednesday and remain at Legion Field for a league doubleheader against the Fort MacLeod Royals Thursday, July 10.

Havre’s doubleheader with Lethbridge starts at 5 p.m. Sunday at Legion Field. The second game is slated for 7 p.m. The North Stars also host Vauxhall Wednesday and the Fort MacLeod Royals next Thursday night.
