From Tee to Green...
Rain, and lots of it was the story line on the local golf scene this past week. But while local golf courses saw heavy rain early in the week, the sun and fun returned just in time for the weekend.
This past Saturday at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the NLASF Scramble was held and the 18-hole tournament was an outstanding success as it always is. The annual tourney helps raise much-needed funds for MSU-Northern athletic scholarships across the board.
First place in the tournament went to Scharfe, Kato and Co., composed of Jim Kato, Carrie Kato, Greg Baltrusch and Shari Baltrusch. Second place was Helena Chemical, made up of Dusty Heath, Jim Benner, Susan Benner and Ken Wagner and third place went to Bear Paw Credit Union with Gerry Veis, Pam Veis, Gunnar VanderMars Eric Fee.
The tourney scene continues next month with the Rotary Blast on July 13.
Speaking of the Rotary Club, it’s time to sign kids up for the annual Rotary Youth Golf Camp, which is held July 8-10 at Prairie Farms. The camp is open to boys and girls ages eight and up at a cost of $25 per golfer. To sign up, contact the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms.
While the weekend was good, much of last week wasn’t for the golf scene. At Prairie Farms, both nights of men’s league were canceled last week. Last Tuesday and Wednesday was to mark the beginning of the second half of the league season. That half will now start with tonight’s action and Wednesday.
The ladies did get their league night in Thursday. Havre Heating & AC scored 26.5 points to earn high-team honors. The team was composed of Kelsey Ward, Kim Evans, Karan Evans and Jill Reber. Ali Ward was low gross with a 1-over-par 37, while Paula Sheppard and Tammy Boles tied low net with a 32.
