A group of Hi-Line girls have been invited to perform at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego in December.
Catalina Carlon, the coach for the girls, teaches in both Chester and Havre.
"That's going to be pretty fun for the small dance team," Carlon said.
The girls going to the bowl are from Havre, Rudyard and Chester, Carlon said. The team performs under the name "Hi-Line Dance." Carlson used to teach at Shooting Star, a former gym in Havre. She said she has been teaching in Havre for eight years.
Carlon currently teaches at Cottonwood School and North Star High School. She said the way the trip to San Diego came to be was with a cold call from an organizer of the half-time show for the Holiday Bowl.
"She told me someone recommended me," Carlon said. "I don't know who that was, but I am very grateful. It gives the kids a great opportunity."
Carlon's home base is in Chester, she said, but she teaches across the Hi-Line.
"We've been performing and learning and growing," Carlon said.
The girls will be going to San Diego from Dec. 26 to 31. The actual performance will be Dec. 27.
"We will be performing with a bunch of other dance teams and cheerleaders from all around the country," Carlon said.
She will be accompanying 10 Hi-Line dancers to the game, she added. The girls will work with well-known choreographers and dance with a large group at the Holiday Bowl.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for the kids to meet other dancers from all over the country," Carlon said.
The girls will be fundraising in the months before the show. The trip will cost a little over $800 per girl, Carlon said. They will set up booths at the Fourth of July celebration, the Great Northern Fair at the fairgrounds and at other events, trying to raise money to fund their trip.
Carlon said if anyone wants to donate to their trip or has any questions, they can call her at 390-0752.
