Brown wins Hill County treasurer

In her win in Tuesday’s primary, Hill County Treasurer and Assessor Sandy Brown added an exclamation point to her victory four years ago.

Tuesday, Brown defeated her previous boss, former Hill County Treasurer and Assessor Carrie Dickson, with more than 77 percent of the vote, 834 to 245.

In 2010, Brown defeated Dickson 1,414 to 935, slightly more than 60 percent of the vote.

No Republican filed this year, making the primary win a win for the office for Brown.

In 2010, Republican Bill Gupton withdrew from the race to take a job in Anaconda, and the Hill County Republicans declined to nominate Wanda Mork to take his spot when she offered. That made Brown’s primary win a win for the general election that year, as well.

In 2010, Brown had 11 years as a clerk in the office, while Dickson had 21 years including 16 years as treasurer.

Brown campaigned this year on changes she has made in the office, including upgrading and modernizing its equipment and computer programs. She told the voters she still has more improvements she wants to make.
