From Tee to Green...
Saturday is a big day for the local golf scene. The Havre Women’s Golf Association will hold its annual charity tournament that day at Prairie Farms Golf Course.
And there are still openings for the tourney, which has now evolved from fighting breast cancer to helping fight all forms of cancer.
This year's tournament will be held at Prairie Farms Golf Course and will be a way to support those battling all forms of cancer. In past years, the association has raised approximately $15,000 annually to assist in defraying the costs associated with breast cancer for women and men along the Hi-Line. The funds raised from this year's tournament will be able to assist anyone along the Hi-Line who is making the courageous battle with any type of cancer.
“The goal is to raise even more funds to help our friends and neighbors with travel, prosthetics, medications, and much more,” the Havre Women’s Golf Association said in a press release.
If anyone would like to play in the 3-woman scramble, buy a flag in honor of a loved one, donate a prize, or sponsor the tournament, contact Melissa at 945-2651.
Meanwhile, the ladies have started their new season of league golf at Prairie Farms.
Last Thursday night saw Western Drug score 26 points and earn high-team honors. The team is composed of Paula McLain, Tabitha Bradbury, Kasey Shettel and Lorna Kirkpatrick. Ali Ward shot a 40 to earn low gross, while Dora Wirtzberger was low net with a 29.5.
In men’s league action at Prairie Farms last Tuesday, Bosch-Kuhr-Dugdale scored 27 points to easily take high-team honors. The team was made up of Mike Ritz, Steve Brown, Doug Ross and Gene Harada. Matt Hedstrom shot a 1-over-par 37 for low gross, while Gene Allen netted a 29.5 for tops in that category. Last Wednesday night’s action was rained out. There are three weeks left in the first half of the men’s season, starting with tonight’s action.
And while we’re on the subject of competitive golf, I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Chinook boys golf team on an outstanding finish at the Class C state golf tournament two weeks ago at Seely Lake. Chinook placed second overall and had a pair of All-State golfers in Lane Seymour and Jake Diemert. Also, an outstanding job came from Chinook senior Zach Molyneaux, who participated on the Chinook golf team, while also competing as one of the top track and field athletes in Class C this spring.
Well done Sugarbeeters.
