Salvation Army to benefit from talent show

Local talent from around north-central Montana will perform at the Talent of the Hi-Line. 7 p.m., Saturday, at Havre High School.

People will have an opportunity to enjoy themselves and help out the Havre Salvation Army, said Trina Crawford, Salvation Army executive director.

The annual event will help raise money for emergency services, she said.

Tickets are $5 each and $15 for a family, she said. Buckets for further donations will be provided.

Chinook musician and author Ken Overcast will be master of ceremonies and will perform, she said.

Scott Hamilton, a pianist and senior at Chinook High School, will perform, she said.

The Rutherfords, a group that plays with guitars and music, is coming from Salvation Army headquarters in Washington State.

The Rutherfords are coming to Havre to mark the 100th anniversary of the Salvation Army’s presence in the city, she said.

Sally Hallingstad, Overcast’s granddaughter, will play the fiddle.

“It should be a great night of entertainment,” Crawford said.

The money will be very handy for Salvation Army as the organization tries to meet its goals of providing emergency services to people in need, she said.

“Our needs have just about tripled this year,” she said.

The money will help provide emergency services to people who need transportation to medical appointments, who need funds to pay utility bills, or to need temporary lodging, she said.

There is also an emphasis on case management, she said. Case management, she explained, means helping people make changes in their lives so they don’t need emergency services.

In February, a family came in to the Salvation Army during the cold snap. They were living in a shed and needed some place warmer.

Crawford said she found them temporary lodging and started working with them to find employment.

After a month, they were in need of further services because they were still out of work.

But after two months, both had found jobs.

“Today they are both doing very well,” she said.
