MSU-N rodeo teams ride in Glendive

After a week off, the Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams continued their season this past weekend.

The Lights and Skylights were in Glendive for the Dawson Community College Rodeo, and the Skylights were especially strong. Northern earned a fifth-place finish in the team competition. Hanna Heckman led the way with a second-place finish in barrel racing in the long round, and she had some tough luck in the short round tipping a barrel. Kassy Brough finished 10th in the long round, fourth in the short round and seventh in the average in the barrels.

On the men’s side, Charlie Mack was fourth in bareback riding with a 70, and he earned the only points for the Lights.

Northern is back in action with this weekend’s UGF Rodeo in Great Falls.

“The team will be in action in Great Falls this weekend at the UGF college rodeo held in the Four Seasons Arena,” said head coach Doug Kallenberger. “This should be a good rodeo for our team, this rodeo should have a great crowd and is in the same venue as the Montana Circuit Finals rodeo. The venue itself should get our team pumped and step up their performances to earn some valuable points. This is our closest rodeo we travel to and hope to get some support for our team down in Great Falls. The UGF rodeo starts Thursday (today) and ends with a top 10 short round Saturday night, with a concert included in the ticket after the rodeo.”

Fowllowing the UGF Rodeo, the Lights and Skylights will wrap up the season with University of Montana Rodeo May 9-11 in Missoula.
