The Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s golf teams returned home from the Frontier Conference spring debut with plenty of golf experience.
The Lights and Skylights participated in the Frontier Conference Invite, which was played in Lewiston, Idaho, Monday and Tuesday.
The Northern men were led by senior Justin Newton, who finished tied for 11th at the prestigious tournament. Newton shot rounds of 72, 82 and 75 to finish strong in his first tournament since last fall. Overall, the Lights came in eighth place out of nine teams with a team score of 1,068. Nate Durocher finished 50th (276) for the Lights, followed by Tanner Shanks at 51st (279), Taylor Allery at 52nd (284) and Stephen Carlson at 53rd (315).
Spokane Community College finished in first place in the men’s meet, followed by Lewis-Clark State and Rocky Mountain College. Former North Star sports standout Jordy Donoven finished in 18th place for the Battlin’ Bears.
On the women’s side, the Skylights placed sixth overall with a total score of 871. Ashley Hooper paced the MSU-N women by finishing in 34th place (214). Chinook’s Mikenda Seymour finished 36th (223), followed by Molly Kreycik at 37th (227) and Kristen Bense at 38th (229).
LC State was first in the women’s meet, followed by Rocky Mountain College and Carroll College.
Northern will next compete at the Frontier Conference Championships April 27-29 in Missoula.
