The Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams opened the spring season in impressive fashion this past weekend.
The Lights and Skylights were at the Montana State University Rodeo in Bozeman, where the MSU-N teams placed third overall in both performances.
Charlie Mack again had a great weekend winning the short round in the bareback and ending the first rodeo third in the Average. Nick Owens also had a strong showing placing third in the long round and fourth in the average. In the second rodeo Mack placed fourth and Owens sixth in the bareback, while Brandon Toren finished fifth in saddle bronc.
Kassy Brough earned points by placing eighth in the barrel racing. Sierra Collins was a 2.6 in the breakaway roping, but had some tough luck and broke the barrier to add 10 seconds on her time.
“Our team showed they can compete with the bigger schools, and individually we have some team members that earned valuable points that moved them into contention for the CNFR,” said head coach Doug Kallenberger. “Our first rodeo went great and our entire team improved their rides and runs in the second rodeo. I am so proud of the heart and try they all showed this past weekend, it was a long one, and they just got better.”
The MSU-Northern rodeo teams will be back in action April 25-27 at the Dawson Community College Rodeo in Glendive.
