2014 Havre Daily All Hi-Line Girls Team

Long ago, it became obvious that the girls basketball Class of 2014 on the Hi-Line was going to be a great one. And the 2014 Havre Daily News All Hi-Line Girls Team certainly proves that point.

This year’s version of the All Hi-Line Team is senior heavy, with nine in all. It’s also littered with players who have been on the All Hi-Line Team before, including two standouts who have become the first to make it four years in a row.

Overall, in what is a reflection of a tremendous year of girls basketball in our area, there are seven girls who have been on the All Hi-Line Team at least twice, with two four-timers and two more three-timers. There are four players from the Class A state champion Havre Blue Ponies on the list and three more from the 9C champion Chinook Sugarbeeters. There’s also not a single underclassmen on the team this season, while the breakdown by class includes four from Class A Havre, one player from the Class B ranks and seven from Class C.

Brandy Lambourne, Havre

Now a three-time member of the All Hi-Line Girls Team, Lambourne wrapped up her high school career about as well as any player could. She averaged 21 points and five rebounds at the Class A state tournament two weeks ago in Great Falls, scored 25 points in the state championship game and was named State Tournament MVP as her Blue Ponies won their first title in 17 seasons.

Lambourne, who’s heading to MSU-Northern, started for three seasons for head coach Dustin Kraske, while playing all four years of varsity basketball. The last two seasons, she averaged double figures and was a three-time All Central A selection. She also earned Class A All-State honors this season, and while the talented guard has been spectacular for years, she certainly saved her best for last.

Peyton Filius, Havre

Filius is the first of two players in the Class of 2014 to become four-time members of the All Hi-Line Team. The Blue Pony senior is a four-year starter for HHS, and leaves with a career scoring average of 13 points per game. The sharp-shooting Filius is also headed to play for the MSU-Northern Skylights and head coach Chris Mouat.

A brilliant career, spanning four seasons at HHS, also includes being selected as an All-Conference performer for three straight seasons, and is a two-time Class A All-State standout. And to go with, Filius, one of four Blue Ponies to make the All Hi-Line Team this year, leaves high school with a coveted state championship.

Makahyla Farmer, Chinook

Farmer (6-2) joins Filius as a four-time All Hi-Line selection. But that’s not the only thing she’s done four times in her sensational Chinook career. Farmer was a four-year starter for the Beeters, a four-year All 9C and All Northern C selection, and she averaged a double-double in every single year of her high school career. This past season, Farmer averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game in helping the Beeters to their third 9C championship in the last four years, and their fourth straight appearance at the Northern C Divisional. Farmer, too, is headed to Northern to continue her playing career with the Skylights.

Molly Herron, Big Sandy

Herron is another repeat performer on the All Hi-Line Team and yet another member of the Class of 2014 on her way to college basketball. A four-year starter for the Pioneers, Herron is going to UGF next fall and is on the All Hi-Line Team for the third straight year. She scored more than 1,000 points in her Big Sandy career and earned All 9C honors four times and Northern C All-State honors the last three seasons.

Chanal Standing Rock, Rocky Boy

Standing Rock is on the All Hi-Line Team for the second time. She also made the list as a sophomore at Havre High. But in her senior year at Rocky Boy, she exploded on the offensive end. In leading the Morning Stars to a stellar third-place finish at the Northern B this spring, Standing Rock averaged 19 points per game and was one of the top 3-point shooters in all of Class B girls basketball. She scored a season-high 40 points back in December against Harlem and for her efforts, earned 1B All-Conference honors.

Morgan Mazurkiewicz, Havre

Mazurkiewicz is making her second straight appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. As a junior, she scored close to 10 points per game, and started for the state champion Blue Ponies for the third straight season. Earning All Central A honors for the second consecutive season, Mazurkiewicz also made the Class A State All-Tournament Team, and will be one of the top seniors in the Central A next season.

Haley Harmon, Chester/J-I

In the history of the All Hi-Line Girls Team, there has yet to be a year when Chester/J-I wasn't represented. The Hawks’ Haley Harmon keeps that tradition alive this season. An All Northern C selection this season, Harmon averaged close to 15 points per game, and was an extremely accurate 3-point shooter. She also helped C/J-I win its fourth straight regular season 10C championship.

Katelyn Neibauer, Chinook

A junior, Neibauer is making her first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. She averaged 13 points and six rebounds for the 9C champion Sugarbeeters and played her best basketball of the season in the postseason. Neibauer has the length to play inside, but she’s a deadly 3-point shooter and a great ball handler, and she’ll be one of the top seniors in the 9C next season.

Bettie Carlon, North Star

A four-year varsity player for the Knights, Carlon becomes the second member of her family to make the All Hi-Line Team. Older sister Lisa made the list a year ago. In her senior season, Carlon helped the Knights to a second-place finish and yet another strong showing at the Northern C. She averaged 10 points per game this season, and was named All 9C for the third year in a row.

Lacey Waid, Havre

The fourth player from the state champion Blue Ponies to make the list, Waid is yet another four-year player for head coach Dustin Kraske. A starter the last three, Waid has been a key component to HHS’s success. She has long been one of Havre’s best defenders and rebounders, but she has been a strong scorer, too. She averaged seven points per game this season, and earned All Central A honors for the second year in a row.

Emily Dennis, Chinook

Dennis makes her second straight All Hi-Line Team. A four-year varsity player for the Sugarbeeters, Dennis is one of the best all-around athletes on the Hi-Line. She can score from the outside in, she plays defense at a high level and is an excellent rebounder for her size. She scored 10 points per game this season for Chinook, and was named All 9C for the third straight year.

Brooke Leader, Big Sandy

The second Big Sandy player to make the list, Leader was also a four-year starter for the Pioneers. She earned all 9C honors four times as well, while averaging nearly 10 points per game over her career. Leader put in 14 points per outing this season, and was a versatile player for the Pioneers, playing guard and forward at times.
