Havreite arrested in murder case

Carlson in jail without bond

A Havre man is in the Hill County jail being held without bond on pending charges of murder and parole violation.

The Havre Police Department issued a release Monday afternoon stating that Jordan Carlson, 25, was taken into custody after officers and emergency medical technicians responded to a report about 8 p.m. Sunday of a disturbance on the 600 block of 1st Avenue.

A woman at the scene was “unresponsive,” the release said, and Carlson was taken to the jail to be held on the pending deliberate homicide and parole violation charges.

An updated release this morning said Havre officers and state Division of Criminal Investigation agents were on the scene this morning and expected to complete processing of the scene by this afternoon.

The body of the woman was transported to the Montana State Crime Lab pending an autopsy, the release said.

Interim Chief of Police Gabe Matosich told the Havre Daily News Monday that no additional information could be released while the investigation is ongoing.

The call reporting the disturbance was not listed in the dispatch log provided to the Havre Daily Monday morning.

Carlson pleaded guilty in 2009 to charges that he used lighter fluid to start a couch in his residence on fire, then warned people in the four-apartment building on the 500 Block of 8th Street that the fire had gotten out of control. Police found residents, including infants and children, outside while the apartment was engulfed in flames.

He was sentenced to seven years in the custody of the state Department of Public Health and Human Services on each of the felony charges of criminal endangerment and arson, and ordered to pay $245,000 in restitution.

DPHHS transferred Carlson from the Montana State Hospital to the Montana State Prison in May 2010, saying in its notice that he did not require a further level of hospital care and the prison would better meet his custody, care and treatment needs.

Sept. 17, 2013, the prison issued a notice that Carlson had been paroled to Havre.

Freedom of Speech does exist but not a single detail of this case has come out yet other than Carlson was arrested and the girl is dead. So sure, people can speculate all they want but only a fool would pay any attention to the know-it-alls at this point in time. If you know Carlson, you'd know about his substantial brain damage and you'd know he was very kind hearted and giving. This is a major tragedy for everyone involved. Keep your hearts and your minds open. Maybe something can be learned.

It's all about money anymore, and i'll explain why, I saw a person who was at the jail go to court, get a bond reduction and get out the same day, Now for the charges? He beat his girlfriend with a tire iron... Later that day, he was back in for the same thing. If you think about it,the lower the price on bail, the more money they can make. Or that's my understanding of it. Pretty flawed to me if I say so myself.

Hey everyone! FREEDOM OF SPEECH was given to us for a reason. People are allowed to express their opinions freely regaurdless of what you believe, so ininstead of attacking other bloggers for theirs whilst you express your own, how about focusing on issue at hand? Someone is dead and countless peoples' lives in our community are about to change. I pray for everyone involved and our justice system is flawed, but without any law can you imagine the anarchy that would insue? Just sayin...

Understanding writes:

Guesswho, Maybe before your own judgement, you should think about all the factors going into it. Don't just say that all crimes are best handled in a prison cell. Keep your comments alone until you know more. There's always things you don't know. I give prayers and hope to the families and hope for the best. Both families need all the support they can get right now

Willy writes:

Hey Guess Who, until we put up more money to house these people they are going to continue to be released. Whatever happened to the private facility that Hardin built, but the state was to good to use it and it sat empty. There is a story for you Tim Leeds.

Guesswho writes:

Why in the world was he paroled? I don't care how crowded these prison are, when the justice system cuts the sentence short, something is wrong with the system. This practice and the plea agreement practice needs to be stopped. If these investigators can't find enough evidence to get a conviction then we need to get new investigators not plea the charges down so the criminal can get off on lesser charges.
