Six Blue Pony girls earn Central A honors

After winning the Class A girls state tournament earlier this month, it should come as no surprise that six Havre High Blue Pony athletes, including all five starters, were honored with postseason awards.

Both Peyton Filius and Brandy Lambourne led the Pony efforts this season as seniors. Both are also playing for Montana State University-Northern next season, and both were also named Class A All-State and Central A All-Conference First Team in their final season of high school basketball

. Both Filius, who is now a two-time All-State selection, and Lambourne averaged near 13 points per game this season, and Lambourne is also coming off of the best weekend of her career, being named the Class A state tournament MVP after leading the Ponies in scoring on their way to their to their first title in 17 years.

But the Ponies didn’t turn in a 17-6 season and win a state title on the backs of just two standout guards.

Senior Lacey Waid, one of the Ponies’ best defensive players was also selected as Second-Team All-Conference, while Morgan Mazurkiewicz, another standout junior guard was also named Second-Team All-Conference. Senior post Haley Ohm and junior guard Tori Mazurkiewicz got Honorable Mention All-Conference for the 2013-14 season.

Havre High head coach Dustin Kraske was also honored for what his squad was able to do this season. Kraske was named Central A Coach of the Year, the sixth time in the last eight seasons he’s earned that distinction.

Livingston got one All Conference selection and Lewistown earned two. And following Havre, Belgrade and Browning both got three athletes who earned postseason honors.

Second Team

Morgan Mazurkiewicz, Havre, Junior; Tanna Holliday, Belgrade, Senior; Lacey Waid, Havre, Senior; Alexis Clingingsmith, Belgrade, Junior; Jaree Mane, Lewistown, Sophomore.

Honorable Mention

Erin Singleton, Belgrade, Junior; Rachel Heptner, Browning, Senior; Tori Mazurkiewicz, Havre, Junior; Kaylea Skunkcap, Browning, Junior; Haley Ohm, Havre, Senior.
