Freezing rain makes dangerous driving conditions, Havre schools delayed.

Freezing rain likely followed by snow is causing icy conditions from the Rocky Mountain Front through North Dakota, and with some schools or buses delayed or canceled.

National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory from Fort Benton northeastward along U.S. Highway 87 and along and north of U.S. Highway 2 from Cut Bank east.

Drivers are urged to use caution and warned that using cruise control on slick roadways can increase the chance of losing control of the vehicle driven.

A Rocky Boy schools representative said this morning that buses and classes are canceled in that district, while Havre Public Schools announced that due to the freezing rain, classes will begin two hours later than a normal school day.

There will be no out of town bus routes running this morning for Havre schools.

Hays-Lodge Pole schools also said buses were delayed, with the routes running at 9 a.m.

A Montana State University-Northern Facebook post reports classes at the university will not start until 11 a.m. due to the freezing rain.

Box Elder schools are canceled today with its boys basketball team shooting for a state championship at the Class C tournament in Butte.

The schools in Big Sandy, Chinook, Chester, Harlem, and Rudyard and Gildford for North Star Schools report they are running on time.
