It’s coming down to the wire for the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team, and they picked up two more wins over the weekend.
Havre swept the Flathead Fusion in a pair of games this past weekend in Whitefish, winning 3-2 Saturday and 6-2 Sunday.
In Saturday’s game, Havre scored a goal in each period in what was a hard-fought win. Justin Miller found the net on an assist by Brandon Huntington, and Huntington also hit the goal on an assist by Alex Hanson. Ned Malone scored Havre’s third goal, assisted by Miller and Dustin Armstrong.
The Ice Hawks played a clean game as well, committing just two penalties. Goalie Josh Emge was outstanding, making timely saves throughout the game.
Emge came up big Sunday as well, allowing just one Fusion goal. Meanwhile, the Havre offense was explosive as the Ice Hawks scored twice in the first period and four more times in the second.
Gavin Gunderson got things started with a goal on a Kyle Konesky assist. Malone then scored two straight, both on Justin Miller assists, while Armstrong also assisted on Malone’s second score. Alex Hanson added a goal on a Blake Hanson assist, while Huntington scored on a Konesky assist and Armstrong netted Havre’s final goal on an assist from Miller and Nick Stump.
Havre will wrap up its regular season with two games this weekend in Great Falls. The Ice Hawks play Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m. in Great Falls.
The Ice Hawkstwill then head to Billings for the Montana High School Hocky state tournament March 7-8.
