Class A Wrestling Update: Ponies take their lead into the finals

Updated at 2:50 p.m. Through the consolation round, the Havre High wrestling team leads Sidney 274.5-252-5 at the All-Class State wrestling tournament in Billings.

Havre came back strong after the semifinals Saturday morning, as Logan Pleninger (113), Grayson Brenna (120) and Thomas Gruber (132) came back finish third, while Kody Pribyl (145) and Dustin Odegard (182) finished fourth. Jake Williams (170) and Dylan Stewart (126) both won their final matches, finishing fifth.

In the semifinals, Keegan Kennelly beat Sidney's Wyatt Van Buren and will wrestle Dillon's Kholtin Starkel in the 106-pound final. At 138, freshman Parker Filius got a major decision over Corvallis' Tyler Olson and will face Sidney's Jordan Stevens for the title, while freshman Jase Stokes will wrestle Columbia Falls' Brian Schaeffer for the 152-pound state title. Junior Jace Billy pinned Corvallis' Monty Jessop in the semis and will grapple Belgrade's Jaden Bryant in the championship, while brothers Tyler and Travis Adams both earned semifinal pins and will wrestle for the 220-pound state championship.

Meanwhile, Havre saw defending state champion Grayson Brenna lose an 8-6 heartbreaker to Sidney two-time champ Gresh Jones in the 220-pound semifinal, while Logan Pleninger, Kody Pribyl and Jake Williams were also beaten in the semifinals. Dylan Stewart, Thomas Gruber and Dustin Odegard also won in the consolation matches Saturday morning, while Jared Laux and John Chinadle were eliminated.
