Hill County spelling bee is set for Wednesday

Sixty-nine students from Hill County high schools will take part in the annual Hill County spelling bee at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Havre Middle School.

The contestants each won spelling contests at their home schools, said Hill County Schools Superintendent Diane McLean.

The public is invited to watch the bee take place, she said.

Students from Box Elder, Rocky Boy, Havre, North Star and Gildford Colony School will take part.

McLean said she is always impressed with the spelling ability of the students.

Seeing the students, she said, she is convinced that good spelling is not a thing of the past. Technology has not changed their willingness of learn good spelling.

“They spell the way we did growing up,” she said. “The way it is in the dictionary, not the way people text.”
