Montana Actors' Theatre is opening a Neil Simon classic in Havre this week, "Barefoot in the Park."
The comedy tells the story of two newlyweds as they learn to deal with their differences - he a straight-laced lawyer and she a bubbling free spirit - in their new apartment.
Simon's play was first produced on Broadway in 1963 and was nominated for a Tony award in 1964. It also became the playwright's first screenwriting endeavour, when he adapted his play for the screen in a 1967 movie starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. Redford also performed in the Broadway production.
The MAT production is directed by Anthony Cammon, and stars Mary Kaercher and Ty Hedalen as the newlyweds, Pam Veis as the bride's mother and Mike Zook as their upstairs neighbor, with Shawn Reichle and Martin Holt rounding out the cast.
The doors to the production in the Little Theatre, at the west end of Cowan Hall on the Montana State University-Northern campus, open along with the backstage lounge at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the play starting at 8 p.m.
The production continues Feb. 6-8 and Feb. 13-15.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and Northern students gain free admission with a valid student identification card.
