BILLINGS - Joyce J. Sutherland, 75, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings of natural causes. Wake services began on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, and will continue until her funeral service, which shall be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014. Burial will be at the Four Souls Ranch. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Joyce was born on Jan. 26, 1938, to Mary and Four Souls, and raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there. After receiving her GED, she married Henry Sutherland Sr. in 1967, and the couple made their home in Rocky Boy, raising their four children there. Joyce worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a secretary in the education and roads departments for many years, and as transportation driver for the Chippewa Cree Health Board until her retirement. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends, traveling, gambling, sewing, beading and quilting.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Four Souls; her sister, Delia Demontiney; her brother, Henry Four Souls; her grandson, James Joseph Sangrey; her niece, Linda Demontiney; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is survived by her husband Henry Sutherland Sr. of Rocky Boy; her sons, Jeffrey and Arnold (Dixie) Four Souls, Henry Sutherland Jr. (Charlene), and Dennis Sutherland, all of Rocky Boy; her daughters, Melissa (William Parker), Jaleesa and Olowan Sutherland, and Sophia (Richard) Demontiney, all of Rocky Boy; her brother, Bruce (Valerie) Sunchild of Rocky Boy; her sisters, Zellah Nault, Mary Margaret Johnson and Ruby (Videl) Stump, all of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
