Harlem, Chinook look strong in Choteau

The Harlem wrestling team has been powerful all season long. But the Wildcats keep learning that it’s going to be very tough to unseat the Choteau Bulldogs at next month’s Class B-C state tournament in Billings.

This past weekend, Harlem crowned three individual champions at the Choteau Classic, but the Wildcats still finished well behind the Bulldogs. Choteau won its own tournament with 215 points. Huntley Project was a distant second and Fairfield was third. Harlem finished the two-day tournament with 127 points, while Class C Chinook was ninth with 91 points.

The Choteau Classic is an elite tournament, and the Wildcats did well to advance four grapplers into the finals. And for the second straight week, stars Shay Snider and Teague Jones were crowned champions. Snider beat Columbus’ Jake Hall 9-6 in the 126-pound final, while Jones pinned Plains-Hot Springs’ Russell Kualja in the 132-pound title bout.

The Wildcats also got a 220-pound title from top-ranked Seth Adams, who beat Huntley’s Tanner Miller by a fall in the finals. Brendan Johnson reached the 145-pound title match before losing to Cut Bank’s Reid VandenBos. Trent Noel placed third for the Wildcats at heavyweight as well.

The Choteau tourney was one of Chinook’s best of the season as w
