The MSU-Northern men's and women's basketball teams were riding have after sweeping the UM-Western Bulldogs Thursday night in Havre. However, the Lights and Skylights got the tables turned on them Saturday night at the Armory Gymnasium.
The No. 18 Skylights fell to fourth-ranked Westminster 60-46, Northern's first loss of the season in Frontier Conference play. A 12-2 run by the Griffins at the end of the first half proved too much for MSU-N to overcome, as was Ali Blake's game-high 29 points. A'Jha Edwards paced the Skylights with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Northern is 4-1 in the Frontier and 14-3 overall. The Skylights travel to Montana Tech and Carroll College next weekend.
The men's game was eerily similar as the No. 15 Lights dropped a 66-43 decision to the Griffins. Northern fell behind late in the first half, the went ahead early in the second. But four 3-pointers by the Griffins' Blake Skidmore midway through the second propelled them to the win. Roshawn West led the Lights, who fell to 3-2 in league play and 15-4 overall, with 16 points. MSU-N road trips to Tech and Carroll this weekend.
