Busy Blue Ponies square off with Bison tonight

With almost no break, the Havre High wrestling team continues full steam ahead.

After two championships to start the season, the Central A Blue Ponies await another tough dual tonight. For the third time already this season, the Ponies will see the Class AA Great Falls High Bison in action. Tonight at 5, the Ponies and Bison will dual at the Havre High gymnasium.

Havre saw the Bison at the Havre Invite two weeks ago, and defeated the Bison over the weekend at the Mining City Duals. Tonight will be slightly lower key than the Mining City Duals, but it is still a good opportunity for the Ponies to get quality matches this early in the new season, and of course, it’s a matchup of two of Montana’s premier wrestling programs.

Both squads are very familiar with each other. The Bison have been struggling with some injuries, but are expected to bring in at least what they wrestled with this past weekend in Butte. The Ponies are preparing for Tyler Schilling (113), Tyler Meyer (120), Kenton Evans (126), Tommy McMillen (132), Austin Shupe (138), Gage Bentley (145), Kessler Leonard (152), Walker Ferda (160), Cody Henderson (170), Randy Keesler (182), Mateo Amatto-Gattaneo (195), Eric Weaver (220) and Roberto Smith (285).

It should be another tough matchup for the Ponies individually and as a team, but seniors Thomas Gruber, Jayson Kohler, Jake Williams, Dustin Odegard and Tyler Williams will also be honored as the Ponies are on the road the rest of the winter.

And the expected Havre lineup will be Tate Munyon (98), Keegan Kennelly (106), Logan Pleninger (113), Grayson Brenna (120), Dylan Stewart (126), Gruber (132), Parker Filius (138), Kody Pribyl (145), Gunnar Aageson (145), Jase Stokes (152), Kohler (160), Jordan Schroeder (160), Jake Williams (170), Odegard (182), Jace Billy (195), Tyler Adams (220) and Travis Adams (285).

“We have seen each other a lot already,” Filius said. “And I guess instead of going after our own guys in practice, we will bang heads with Great Falls High one more time. They have kids out of the lineup, and we haven’t seen them at full strength yet, but once they get everybody back they will be a handful for anybody. But it is always fun to face them because they are so sound.”

Lewistown was scheduled to make the trip tonight as well, but backed out. The defending Class A state champion Ponies and defending Class AA state champion Bison are scheduled to take the mat at 5 at the HHS gymnasium. Havre will then travel to Great Falls for Friday and Saturday’s CMR Holiday Classic before taking Christmas week off.
