Family-friendly play Includes five-day run Dec. 19-23
Montana Actors' Theatre is presenting a play in the holiday season about a girl's search for home, the fantasy "Still Life with Iris."
In the spirit of Christmas, the amateur acting troupe is giving extra showings of the play, which opens Friday and runs Saturday and will have a five-day showing from Thursday, Dec. 19, through Tuesday, Dec. 23 in the Little Theatre on the bottom floor of Cowan Hall on the Montana State University-Northern campus.
It also runs the following week, Friday and Saturday Dec. 27-28.
The MAT production stars Rory Everingham in the title role, with a list of MAT veterans and many younger thespians rounding out the cast.
The rest of the cast comprises Kayla Townsend, Patrick Ulano, Donald Mayer, Katie Robinson, Garrett Lowlam, Crysta Robinson, Aylan Pratt, Mina Everingham, Haley Lippy, Martin Holt and Hannah Lunak.
The story is set in a fantasy world where the residents take care of all the wonders of nature during the night. Iris, whose father mysteriously disappeared a decade before the story takes place, has her memories taken from her and the story tells the tale of her - and the others of the Land of Nocturno - regaining them as well as her family.
The play comes in the midst of a busy season for MAT, which includes a new method of seeking volunteers for the productions. The acting troupe is looking for people to help staff the box office for the productions, with those volunteers gaining admittance to the shows free of charge.
The production also runs while the troupe is rehearsing its next production, "Barefoot in the Park," set to open Jan. 31.
While that play is being rehearsed, MAT also is auditioning for its next two productions. Audtions for "Ruined" are set for Jan. 7-8, both at 7 p.m. in the Little Theatre, and those for "Chicago" will be held Jan. 15-16, also at 7 p.m. in the Little Theatre.
The doors and the backstage lounge open for the productions of "Still Life with Iris" at 7:30 p.m. each night, with the play starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and Northern students gain free admission with a validated student identification card.
