The master of ceremonies led the crowd in a countdown from 10 to one Saturday night at Town Square in downtown Havre.
As the crowd got to one, 1,000 colored lights on the community Christmas tree lit up and the crowd cheered.
The Saturday night event marked the beginning of the Christmas season in Havre.
The weather was mild, and the crowd larger than usual.
"This is the best one we have had in 12 years," said Debbie Vandeberg, executive director of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber-sponsored event included all the traditional markings of the Christmas season.
The Havre High School Hi-Liters sang Christmas carols, Santa Claus arrived, to the delight of the larger crowd of children, and winners were chosen for a variety of Christmas gifts.
