North Central Montana Transit is going ahead with its plans to have a city bus run that will transport people around Havre twice a day.
The proposal is a good start toward providing the city a service it desperately needs.
The bus service runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We hope that if it is a success, it will be extended.
The bus will take people to key parts of the city — shopping areas and medical facilities for a reasonable price.
Many people, especially older people, are now homebound because they can’t get from one part of the city to another during winter weather. Friends and family are usually busy, often working during the day when people most need the transportation.
The decision to move forward is a win-win situation.
Havre retailers will do better because people will be able to get to their stores and buy their products. General residents fare better because they will have access to stores and areas of townd they might not be able to reach without the bus.
The transit system has already provided tremendous service to the Hi-Line by providing quality bus service from places as far away as Fort Belknap and Great Falls.
Organizers of the route have once again shown that providing service to the public is not a thing of the past.
