The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team clinched the coveted Frontier Conference regular season championship Friday night. Tuesday, Northern rose one spot in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
The Skylights (24-5) moved up to No. 24 in this week’s poll, and ahead of the upcoming Frontier Conference Tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday in Great Falls. Northern is still the only Frontier team ranked inside the Top 25, though the Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears moved up several spots in the new poll, even with Friday night’s loss at MSU-N. The Bears, with a strong showing at this weekend’s tournament, have put themselves in position to receive an at-large berth to the NAIA national tournament, as has MSU-N pending the outcome this weekend in Great Falls.
In the final Frontier Power Rankings for the regular season, Northern was first, followed by RMC. Lewis-Clark State is third, followed by Westminster, Carroll College, Montana Tech, Great Falls, UM-Western and Dickinson State.
LC State’s Niurka Toribio was named Frontier Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Monday. Erin Jensen was Northern’s nominee.
