Emily Dennis, Chinook Volleyball
In the sport of volleyball, hitters and blockers seem to get all the glory. It's the nature of the game. But reliable defenders like Chinook senior Emily Dennis can make all the difference. Dennis did just that this past weekend for Chinook as she led the 6C champion Sugarbeeters in digs and aces during the district tournament in Gildford. In three matches, Dennis totaled 102 digs, including a remarkable 58 in the title match against North Star, as well as nine aces.
Dennis is also a standout basketball player for the Beeters.
Thomas Gruber, Havre Football
The Havre High football team's offense can certainly put up points and steal the show. But if it weren't for a courageous defensive effort Saturday against Miles City, the Blue Ponies' season would be over. One of Havre's stellar defenders is senior Thomas Gruber, who recorded five tackles, two pass breakups and grabbed a key interception in Havre's 21-20 Class A playoff win Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium. Gruber, who spent the day chasing talented Cowboy receivers, led the Central A in interceptions this fall. He's also a standout in wrestling in track.
