Three Frontier teams rise in NAIA grid poll

It was a busy week of sports action around the Frontier Conference.

Three Frontier football teams remain the NAIA Coaches Poll, released Monday afternoon. After beating Montana State University-Northern 42-14 Saturday in Havre, Carroll College jumped from No. 7 to No. 5 in this week's poll. Despite losing a game to a forfeit, Rocky Mountain College also moved up two spots this week. The Battlin' Bears are ranked No. 8 in the poll, while Southern Oregon moved up to No. 20.

The Lights, who have lost three straight heading into Saturday night's game with Montana Tech, didn't receive any votes in the poll.

Carroll quarterback Dakota Stonehouse was named Frontier Offensive Player of the Week after throwing four touchdowns against the Lights. SOU linebacker Laurence Calcago earned defensive honors, while Eastern Oregon kicker Marc David was named Special Team's Player of the Week.

Rocky Mountain's Yang Yang was named Frontier Volleyball Player of the Week. Northern senior libero Holly Cartwright was nominated for the award this week.

Great Falls' sophomore Erin Legel earned Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors. She scored 21 points, had six rebounds, dished out 10 assists and grabbed seven steals in a win over Lethbridge. MSU-N junior A'Jha Edwards was nominated. Lewis-Clark State's E.J. Farris earned Men's Player of the week honors, while Northern's Alfie Miller was the school's nominee.
