Candidates for mayor of Havre and Havre City Council will present their stands on the issues at a candidate forum sponsored by the Havre Daily News tonight.
The forum starts at 6:30 p.m. at Havre High School auditorium.
Havre High School civics teacher John Ita will be the moderator.
Matthew Boucher, the Republican candidate for 4th Ward council member, will give brief opening remarks and then be asked questions submitted by readers and staffers at the Havre Daily News.
His Democratic opponent Karen Datko was unable to attend.
Unopposed candidates will then be given three minutes to introduce themselves:
They include:
• Terry Lilletvetd, Democrat in Ward 1, for a four-year term.
• Democrat Janet Trethewey in Ward 2, for a four-year term.
• Democrat Jay Pyette for a four-year term in Ward 3.
• Democrat Allen “Woody” Woodwick for a two-year term in Ward 3.
Then the mayoral candidates, Tim Solomon, the incumbent Democrat, and former Mayor Bob Rice, a Republican, will square off. Each will give opening statements and respond to questions.
The forum is being held early because ballots will be mailed out Tuesday. Municipal elections in Havre are conducted entirely by mail.
In addition to the mayor and council races, voters will be asked to approve a plan to hold nonpartisan elections for city offices. Presently, candidates are nominated by political parties.
