The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team has yet to be beat in Frontier Conference play. In fact, the Skylights went the entire month of September without losing a match.
But even after beating Frontier contenders Montana Tech and Carroll College this past weekend, on the road, Northern, and the rest of the Frontier for that matter, are finding it hard to get any national respect.
Despite moving to 7-0 in league play, and 16-4 overall, the Skylights actually lost ground in this week’s NAIA Coaches Poll. Northern dropped from receiving 80 votes last week, to just 35 votes this week.
The Skylights are still rated No. 1 in this week’s Frontier Conference Power rankings, with Rocky Mountain College second. The Battlin’ Bears also received votes in this week’s NAIA poll, but both the Skylights and Bears are now farther off from cracking the NAIA Top 25 as the Frontier reaches the halfway point this weekend.
Northern is home to face rival Great Falls on Thursday night. The rivalry match will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Armory Gymnasium.
