This is an exciting time of the year for the staff at Nalivka’s Pizza on 1st Street.
All hands will be on deck Friday night, when the place will be busy as any time of the year.
Ten percent of the money taken in from the sales that day will go to the Karen Muller Breast Cancer Foundation.
This will be the third annual Slice of Hope night that raises money for the fight against breast cancer.
In addition to the pizza, there will be all kinds of cupcakes and cookies.
The evening’s highlight will be the auction of some big cakes and pies. People can submit bids anytime, but the winner will be decided at 9:30 p.m.
“We will deliver the goodies to the winners,” said Gay Nalivka.
People can order the pizza and goodies any time, but Nalivka’s urged people to do so as soon as possible.
“If people want to call in today, we’d appreciate it,” she said. The number is 265-4050.
That makes it easier to plan the deliveries for the evening, she said.
“We have only so much oven space,” she said.
Regular hours will be in effect — 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Breast cancer means a lot to the Nalivka family, Gay said.
Family and friends have suffered from the disease, she said.
“Breast cancer mainly affects women,” she said. “But it also affects men, and some people forget that.”
“This time of the year is very energizing for our staff,” she said. “And (we’re) really glad to see the support we get from our community. We have a very generous community, we really do.”
