A pedicted defensive struggle was all it was cracked up to be Saturday afternoon in Billings, as the No. 16 Rocky Mountain College Bears put an end to No. 19 MSU-Northern's three-game winning streak. The Bears scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to upend the Lights 23-13 in a Frontier Conference showdown.
MSU-N quarterback Derek Lear gave Northern a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and Jai Johnson answered Rocky's 13-7 halftime lead with a game-tying score in the third. But from there, RMC tacked on a field goal and a Pete Anders TD run in the final stanza, and Rocky's stout defense turned Northern away.
The loss dropped MSU-N to 4-2 in the Frontier, while the Bears took over sole possession of the conference lead. Northern has a bye before heading to Southern Oregon Oct. 19.
