Pioneers keep winning; Knights sweep Hawks

Another busy week of high school volleyball is in the books, and as last weekend unfolded, it’s perfectly clear that the District 6C East is going to be a race which goes right down to the wire.

The 6C East week got started with Big Sandy sweeping Hays-Lodge Pole twice Tuesday night. The Pioneers romped in the first match by scores of 25-9, 25-7 and 25-4 with Brooke Leader totaling five kills. In the second outing, the Pioneers won by scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-4 as Kaylie Gilman had two blocks and nine service aces.

Both area Class B teams were in action Thursday night, and both were beaten by tough opponents.

Playing up, the Rocky Boy Morning Stars lost to the Class A Browning Indians Thursday night in Rocky Boy. The Indians won by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-18. Allison Windy Boy led the Morning Stars with 11 assist, while Jurnee LaForge had five kills and three aces.

Meanwhile, in Malta, the Harlem Wildcats were swept by the Malta M-Ettes in a 2B matchup. The M-Ettes beat the Wildcats by scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-9. Harlem got three kills, two assists and four digs from Erin LaMere, while Coco Moore had four digs.

The big matchup Friday night took place in Chester as the Big Sandy Pioneers rolled up the Hi-Line and took down the Chester/J-I Hawks in a critical 6C East match. The Pioneers won by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-17. Kaylie Gilman had eight kills and four blocks in the sweep, while Kylie Cline had 17 assists and Shelby Gasvoda totaled eight digs and four aces.

The Hawks were led by Allix Goldhahn’s four kills. Denerey Haaland had four aces and seven digs as well.

Chinook also won handily Friday night, beating Denton-Stanford-Geyser at home. The Beeters beat the Trojans by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-23 and were dominant throughout the match.

Leading the way was Makhayla Farmer, who totaled 19 kills and six stuff blocks. Hannah Weber added 17 assists and three aces for the Sugarbeeters.

Back in the 6C East Saturday night, the North Star Knights held on to first place in the conference with a dominating three-game sweep of C/J-I. In Chester, the Knights won by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-19. Tylynn Rettig paced the Knights with nine kills, three aces, one block and a whopping 35 digs. Graysen Spicher had 27 assists.

C/J-I, which suffered its second straight loss at home, got seven kills from Allix Goldhahn, while Denerey Haaland had 12 digs and Erin Wolfe earned one block.

Saturday night didn’t go any better for Rocky Boy. The Morning Stars were beaten at home by Cut Bank by scores of 25-17, 25-9 and 25-13. In the 1B matchup, the Morning Stars got four kills, five blocks and three aces from Jurnee LaForge, as well as 15 digs by Rainey Singer.
