The Chester/J-I Hawks had a big 2012 season. And they continued on the opening night of 2013 with the help of star receiver Justin May. Saturday night, the Hawks beat the Chinook Sugarbeeters 16-12 behind the running of May. May scored three times on runs of 50, 2 and 7 yards. Overall, May rushed for 117 yards as C/J-I beat its Northern C rival for the second straight time and took the early lead in the Northern C standings.
The high school golf season is young, but Havre High senior Katie Beck is already playing like she's in mid-season form. Beck has already finished in the top two twice this season for the Blue Pony girls golf team. A 2012 state qualifier, Beck tied for first at the season-opening tournament at Prairie Farms Golf Course last month. She also shot a 90 last Thursday at the East Glacier Invitational, which was good enough for a second-place finish.
