Tuesday starts grazing season in Beaver Creek, speed limit goes into effect
People driving to or through Beaver Creek Park again will need to keep their eyes open and watch the road with cattle scheduled to start grazing there Tuesday, the day after Labor Day.
In the fall grazing, the single largest source of revenue for the county park, ranchers contract to have their animals graze on the park starting the day after Labor Day and, generally, are allowed to keep their cattle on the park through the end of the year, depending on the grazing conditions.
Each year the local and state government take steps to try to raise people’s awareness of the cattle and the need to drive cautiously on the park.
Signs will be going up warning people to watch their driving on the park, with a reader board scheduled to be placed on the southern edge of Havre and warning signs and speed-limit signs going up in the park.
During the grazing season, the night-time speed limit is 35 mph on the northern part of Beaver Creek Park, where the daytime speed limit is 55 mph.
