United Way to kick off campaign

Noel Davidson has contributed much to the Havre community over the years, but one of his favorite charities is United Way of Hill County.

So it wasn’t a surprise that he was the first person to donate to its annual fund drive — before the drive really began.

“Every life meets its share of adverse experiences,” said Davidson, explaining his commitment to United Way. “No one is exempt.”

“I admire the support and solutions that United Way provides under its umbrella of love and care,” he said.

United Way of Hill County will hold its annual kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Montana State University-Northern’s Student Union Ballroom from 6-8:30 p.m., said Lorraine Verploegen, United Way executive director.

That marks the start of the annual drive to raise money for the 12 funded organizations that United way supports.

An old-fashioned barbeque featuring barbecued beef and chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob, corn bread with honey, macaroni and potato salads, with apple or cherry crisp for dessert.

Water, iced tea, coffee and Pepsi will be provided with a no-host bar.

A new feature to the event is the Let’s Make a Deal Raffle, where audience participation is the key.

Raffle tickets are $100 and include the meal. Event tickets are $30.

The evening will begin with a meet/greet session where community members gather to meet old friends and reminisce about their summer activities.

The 2014 Funded Partners will be available to answer questions on their nonprofit and the impact it has made in Hill County.

The old-fashioned barbeque buffet will begin with entertainment while dining.
