From Tee to Green
Last week I reported that it was the final week of the men’s league regular season at Prairie Farms Golf Course.
I guess I was wrong, and for yours truly, whose team has yet to secure a playoff berth, I’m glad my information regarding the end of the season was incorrect.
Instead, tonight and Wednesday night will be the final men’s league regular season rounds, and the playoff race is still very much wide open. Eight teams have already secured playoff berths in the first half of the season, while the final eight teams will be added after this week’s golf is over.
Wagner Plumbing has a commanding lead in the Tuesday night standings, while Bing ‘N’ Bob’s, Stockman Bank and Northern Edge round out the current top four. Northern Edge has 113.5 points, giving teams all the way down to ninth place a legitimate chance at making some playoff noise this week. In the Wednesday night standings, Valley Furniture also has a big league, bur from there, second place to 10th place is separated by just nine points, so the final nine holes of the regular season could be very interesting.
Last Tuesday night saw Northern Edge grab high-team honors with 23.5 points. The team is composed of Kyle Sheppard, Nate Baltrusch, Ricky Brown and Christian Oberquell. Jeremy Jensen was low gross with a 2-under par 34, while Chuck Wimmer was low net with a 30.5.
Last Wednesday night, Matt Hedstrom really sizzled with a 4-under par 32, including an eagle on a par 4. Kerry Ward was low net with a 26.5, while Valley Furniture was high team with 24.5 points. The team was made up of Mike Evans, Cal Wirtzberger, Dave Peterson and Kerry Ward.
No results were reported from ladies league last week at Prairie Farms.
Meanwhile, the tournament schedule is still in full swing, and last Saturday Prairie Farms played host to the annual Northern Montana Health Care FD Scramble. The 18-hole, four-person scramble, which requires each team to have at least one woman on the team, was captured by the team sponsored by Patrick Construction. The team was composed of Brett Patrick, Jen Brandon, Mike Peterson and Dave Peterson. The tournament is always one of the most well-attended tournaments on the circuit each summer, and as usual, a great turnout, and a good time was had by all.
The Havre Wrestling Club will hold its annual scramble at Prairie Farms Aug. 17. The tournament, which is a 18-hole, 4-person scramble will start at 10 a.m. and costs $75 per player. The fee includes greens fees, mulligans and lunch. To sign up, call the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms at 265-4790.
The high school golf season is set to start Aug. 15. Golfers are reminded they must have a sports physical completed before they can participate.
