Lights unveil a new look for fall

Northern will sport brand new uniforms and helmets in 2013

The Montana State University-Northern football team is now just 32 days out from opening its season at Dickinson State University. And the Lights have two more weeks after that until they make their home debut.

And when Northern does take the field, first on Aug. 29 at DSU, and for the first time at Blue Pony Stadium, Sept. 14 against Eastern Oregon, the Lights will have a brand new look.

Northern recently unveiled its new uniforms on its football Facebook page, and the Lights have made some pretty drastic changes.

The first thing the entire school has changed is the elimination of the Vegas Gold color from it’s official school colors. Northern has now gone back to its more traditional NMC days with maroon and yellow as its colors. Therefore, the Northern football team has done away with the shine Vegas Gold helmets it has worn for quite some time, and instead, gone to a flat, or matte maroon helmet. The matte look has become very popular in college football these days, and the Lights’ new helmet, which will be accompanied by its tradition script logo, though it’s now white, is a very sharp look indeed.

The Lights haven’t just changed colors and styles either, they’ve gone to Nike uniforms. MSU-N has worn Under Armour for the past three seasons, but have now switched to very clean, and very simple Nike uniforms.

Northern’s home colors will still be all maroon, with white trim, while the Lights will wear a white top with maroon trim, and their maroon pants on the road.

Northern begins its season Aug. 29 with a 6:30 p.m. game at Dickinson State University. The Lights play at Carroll College Sept. 7 and then play their home-opener Sept. 14 against Eastern Oregon at Blue Pony Stadium.

The Lights report for fall practice Aug. 9, with their first practice set for Aug. 11 at the MSU-Northern practice fields.
