Morgan Jappe, upcoming Havre High School senior, will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University in New York.
The conference is in its 24th year and will take place Tuesday through Aug. 3.
At the conference, students will participate in trips, tours and workshops that are tailored to fit individual interests.
Jappe is interested in business and entrepreneurship and will be participating in that particular program this summer.
She said that she gets to tour places like the Federal Reserve and Wall Street.
“I really wasn’t expecting it,” Jappe said, adding that her sister was chosen for the same leadership program, but studied forensic science.
Jappe said that the program was expensive, and at first, was not sure if she would be able to go. Her mother told her that if she raised the funds necessary to attend, she could go.
Jappe had a fundraiser at Pizza Hut, sold cookie dough, and even sent letters to friends and family to raise the required amount.
Jappe is involved in several high school activities, including, tennis, swimming, FCCLA, yearbook, and acts as the cross country manager.
She is not positive how the program got her information but thinks it was when she took the PSAT.
Regardless, she said she is very excited that she was selected.
