Havre begins final home stand tonight against Vauxhall
The short break in action came to an end for the Havre North Stars, but they were back on the diamond for more American Legion action Monday.
Havre was on the road Monday afternoon, taking on the Tri-County Cardinals in Conrad. And in the district doubleheader, the North Stars and Cardinals split the two games. The North Stars took Game 1 with a score of 15-6, but the Cardinals took Game 2 by a score of 8-2.
A six-run seventh inning put the Cardinals away in Game 1.
The game was tight to start, and the North Stars trailed 3-2 through three innings. But Havre got hot and added four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and finally, six more in the seventh. Tri-County mustered two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, but the Cardinal’s pitchers couldn’t contain the North Stars down the stretch.
Chris Vukasin pitched the complete seven-inning game, allowing just nine hits. The Tri-County pitching struggled on the other hand, as Clark gave up 17 hits, and walked another five batters. Grabbing three hits off of Clark was North Stars’ Gavin Gunderson, Vukasin and Jase Kato. Travis Roth had two hits and four RBIs, while Ryne Antley had two hits, Deionn Hammet had two hits, and Spencer Ross had one hit. Vukasin helped his own cause on the mound, earning six RBIs.
Runs were harder to come by in the loss, as the North Stars combined for eight hits. But the hits were spread out, as Roth had two hits, and Gunderson, Vukasin, David Denny, Antley, Pierce and Hammet all had one hit each. Denny and Antley had one RBI each.
Denny suffered the loss on the mound for Havre, giving up seven hits and walking seven batters in six innings of action.
But Havre had a shot at sweeping Tri-County, as the Cardinals held a slim 3-2 lead through three innings. But as both teams went scoreless through the fifth, the four Tri-County runs in the sixth inning were enough to put away the North Stars.
It is another quick turnaround for the North Stars, as they return to Legion Field in Havre tonight. The North Stars will host Vauxhall for two games, with the first game of the district doubleheader slated for 5 p.m.
