The association pushing to upgrade and expand the trade corridor along the Hi-Line’s highway has set a meeting in Havre Tuesday, July 30.
Bob Sivertsen, president of the Highway 2 Association, said the group wants to share what is happening on U.S. Highway 2 with the public and hear ideas about what should be done with the highway.
“There are issues that need to be addressed such as transportation and other impacts in communities that are experiencing rapid growth from energy development,” Sivertsen said in a press release. “The association advocates using oil and gas revenues to fund needed upgrades that are necessary to accommodate the robust development.”
Sivertsen said increased energy development, including in the Bakken formation in eastern Montana and in North Dakota, as well as strong agricultural production, is causing impacts on transportation from the North Dakota border to the Rocky Mountain Front.
“I have not, in my lifetime, seen the opportunities that exist,” he said in the release. “We need to capitalize on that by addressing the issues and discussing ways to work with Gov. (Steve) Bullock and the upcoming legislative session.”
The meeting is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Uncle Joe’s in Havre and will include a no-host lunch.
People planning to attend are asked to respond by Tuesday, July 23, to 262-2346 or via email to [email protected].
