People will be able to tour Amtrak cars and learn the history of the passenger rail service when the Amtrak Exhibit Train sets up shop in Havre this weekend.
The exhibit will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Havre Amtrak station.
The self-guided tour will include interactive exhibits showing how an Amtrak train works and the 42-year history of the service.
Some of the exhibits will date back to the start of Amtrak. Exhibits showing menus, china and serving dishes from the early days will be on display.
A car will be set aside to honor veterans, said Fran Berk, Amtrak spokeswoman.
“People will be able to see what goes on behind the scenes at Amtrak,” she said.
That train will emphasize Amtrak’s commitment to ensure that 25 percent of all new hires after 2015 will be veterans, she said.
Although Amtrak won’t be hiring people at the Havre exhibit, it will make visitors aware of the program, she said.
The train will have exhibits paying tribute to veterans, she said.
“This will be a real family event,” she said. “We think people will really enjoy it.”
