Three head coaching jobs still open at HHS
It is not uncommon for a coaching position to open up at Havre High, or any other high school for that matter. But entering the summer months, and with the school year to surely arrive sooner than later, the Havre High athletic department will be looking to fill several coaching positions.
A handful of assistant coaching positions are currently open, but several head coaching positions are also still vacant.
Currently, the Ponies, and Activities Director Dennis Murphy, are looking to fill three head coach positions. The cross country, swimming, and golf programs all need a head coach, three programs that have had very successful seasons in recent history.
Leaving the cross country program was Kyle Fisher. And leaving the swimming program was longtime veteran head coach Chris Inamn, while leaving the golf program was McKinsey Rodriguez.
And it will be beneficial for HHS to fill the positions as soon as possible.
The swimming season wound down after another trip to the All State Swim Meet in February, but the boys and girls cross country and golf seasons will be here in no time. Both programs will begin to compete again in August, while the swimming season will start another hunt for a state title in December. But with many programs utilizing the summer months for offseason training, as well as the start of practices just around the corner, Havre High will be looking fill the remaining coaching holes before too long.
The HHS football program is also looking to fill one assistant varsity coaching position, as well as two freshman coaching positions. And with the fall sports season quickly approaching, the golf and cheer programs are also looking for assistants. And to add to the openings, the Blue Pony swim program and girls’ basketball program are also in need of an assistant coach each before the winter season sets in.
“It was really a perfect storm for Havre High, and for coaching jobs opening,” Murphy said. “We always anticipate losing a coach or two over a school year, but to lose as much as 10 coaches over the school year, that makes it tough. We need coaches, you can’t have programs like these without coaches.”
The fall sports season, which includes football, golf, cross country and cheerleading officially begins on Aug. 16.

Havre High has some very talented and very dedicated coaches. Ever hear of Scott Filius? Chris Inman, who just retired? Dustin Kraske? George Ferguson? Andy Smith? Jason Christenson? They all do pretty well it seems and have a lot of respect from their peers. What do they have in common besides giving their heart and soul to these kids and this school every year? They were all young coaches once too. Chill out and give the young coaches a break. They will work hard and learn as they go.

The simple fact that you mentioned Coach Leeds in this post means that you have no idea what you are talking about. That team WAS very young and did not have much for TALENT. Seniors either want to be there or not. Playing time is not guaranteed because of age. If a freshman is better than you, sorry, he will start. If a senior wants to quit on his team because of this then he will ALWAYS be a quitter. Work harder if you want a spot in the team. I blame the parents in this town for this!

How about some true reporting, that they cannot get anyone to fill the positions that is truly qualified, they are hiring people that either not ready or should never be coaches (Leeds). That Havre has become joke in high school sports. That no one wants to work for Murphy or this school board. It gets old reading the same old story, Havre is a young a team or the numbers are not what they use to be. The numbers are low and they have young teams because the coaches run them off.
